Cheshire Community YMCA Fencing
Fencing Calendar
The Cheshire Community YMCA offers a Fencing program for students in grades 6 through grades 12. Fencing is offered in two forms, Instructional and Club. The Instructional Fencing is for teens who are interested in the sport and have had no experience or very little experience with fencing. Instructional Fencing is coached by several experienced fencers who have a collective experience of over 40 years. The second option for fencers is Club Fencing. Club Fencing is for fencers who have had at least 1 year of training in the sport. Fencers in Club fencing will have the opportunity to participate in state-wide tournaments throughout the year.
Instructional Fencing (Boys & Girls grades 6-12)
Instructional Fencing is designed for students who are interested in learning the sport of fencing. This class will teach the basic fundamentals of fencing and will prepare participants for a competition atmosphere. Participant will be provided with the proper fencing gear but should arrive to class in comfortable clothing that they can freely move in. Instructional fencing will meet once per week.
Club Fencing (Boys & Girls grades 6-12)
Club Fencing is designed for students who have participated in fencing and looking for the next level of fencing. Club Fencing will teach advanced fencing techniques and principles of fencing and will further develop each fencer’s skills. Participants in Club Fencing will need to have previously participated in Instructional Fencing in order to participate and will need to meet with the fencing coach prior to registering. Fencers may have the opportunity to participate in tournaments and competitions throughout the state of Connecticut, however this is not a requirement of Club Fencing.
