Cheshire Community YMCA Child Care & Development
The Cheshire Community YMCAs Preschool Program is to be the premier childcare provider by offering a safe and nurturing environment in which children are encouraged to develop social skills through age appropriate curriculum. Our caring and well trained staff will provide the foundation for future school experience.
Preschool Handbook
Toilet Training Policy
Children are taught through a center-based learning system, combining the use of the CT Department of Education’s Preschool Curriculum Framework and Creative Curriculum for Preschoolers as our guide. These approaches are based on the most recent educational research and are generally recognized as the standard practice for educating young children.
The core of our curriculum is to balance both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning, with an emphasis on responding to children’s learning styles and building on their strengths and interests. All of this is done through well-planned learning and activity centers including: Library (language), Blocks (construction), Music and Movement, Art, Sand & Water (sensory), Outdoor Learning, Cooking, Science and Math.
Each group has a defined, age-appropriate curriculum. Daily summaries are usually posted outside the classrooms. Teachers have detailed plans for each day.
Each day brings new learning opportunities as children are provided a framework within which they will make both self directed and guided choices. The main difference between the programs listed below is the amount of curriculum time the program allows to reach curriculum goals and observe a child’s progress.
Preschool Childcare
(Boys and Girls ages 3 to 5)
The Cheshire Community YMCA child care program provides a fun, safe, and healthy environment, under the care of our qualified staff, for children of working parents. This year-round program is held at the Cheshire YMCA. Call for space availability. All participants must be YMCA members.
Our program is licensed through the State of Connecticut and is located in the secure and stimulating environment of our YMCA Learning Center.
Developmentally appropriate activities include art, dramatic play, field trips, literacy, mathematics, science and indoor/outdoor play.
Our caring, professional teachers and staff ensure the best possible educational and fun experience for your child, making the YMCA an exciting place for children to grow. Children must be fully toilet trained and out of pull-ups to participate in the Preschool program.
