Southington Community YMCA

YMCA High School Clubs

Youth and Government is a program that offers high school students a variety of great opportunities. Students can become lawyers, journalists, lobbyist, legislators or elected officials all while learning about state government. Students research different issues in the state; learn how to put their thoughts into words and their words into action. Youth and Government not only teach public speaking, the legislative process and leadership qualities but it also inspires students to make a difference. Youth and Government meets the first Wednesday of every month beginning in November and ending in March. Meetings are 6:00pm-7:30pm at the YMCA. Gymnastics Team: The Y offers a competitive gymnastics team for Levels 4 through 9. They compete in YMCA meets as well as USAG meets. The season runs from September to May. A summer program is also offered. For additional information, please call 203-272-7688.

Stingray Swim Team: The Y offers one of the finest competitive swim programs for young men and women in Central Connecticut . Under the direction of experienced coaches, swimmers participating in this program will compete in YMCA dual meets, plus cluster championship. Community Service Opportunities

Teen Volunteer Club is designed exclusively for students in grades 8-12 who are interested in volunteering on a regular basis. Participants will have the choice of assisting with the School Age Child Care program, tutoring after school, or a variety of community service projects at the Southington Community YMCA. Program begins the week of September 18 th and runs Monday and Wednesday from 3:00pm-5:00pm . Leader’s Club is designed for high school students who want to take an active role in the YMCA and give back to their community. Weekly meetings will focus on leadership skills, planning YMCA events, working with teens from surrounding towns and planning for state rallies. This program is great for social interaction, group work and communication skills and building a resume. Leader’s Club meets every Tuesday from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at the YMCA beginning September 12 th. Job Opportunities

The Y offers high school students several employment opportunities once they reach the age of 16. Students can apply to work in our Child Care, Aquatics and Day Camp Programs or apply to work at our Membership Services Desk. Applications are accepted throughout the year. The best time to apply would be in the Fall/Spring.
