Southington Community YMCA

Note To Parents

The YMCA offers a variety of fun programs for your pre-teen and teen however we ask that you check with the YMCA for a schedule of these activities. To ensure the safety of all our members we ask that you do not bring your child or drop them off at the YMCA if there are no activities offered for their age group. For more information or to get a schedule of teen activities please contact the Membership Services Desk, 628-5597 ext. 0. If your child is at the YMCA with nothing to do we will ask them to call for their ride home.

 

YMCA Middle School Clubs

Babysitting Certification is designed for pre-teen’s and teens ages 11-15, this American Red Cross course program gives participants the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants through school age children. Topics include safety, prevention of injuries, first aid, decision making and age appropriateness. This class is a five week program and participants must attend ALL classes to receive certification. Junior Leader’s Club is designed for middle school students who want to take an active role in the YMCA and their community. Weekly meetings will focus on positive social interaction, public speaking and leadership skills. Leaders will also be learning how to plan fundraisers, group activities and events. This club meets every Thursday from 6:00pm-7:30pm at the YMCA beginning Thursday, September 14 th. Teen Volunteer Club is designed exclusively for students in grades 8-12 who are interested in volunteering on a regular basis. Participants will have the choice of assisting with the School Age Child Care program, tutoring after school, or a variety of community service projects at the Southington Community YMCA. Program begins the week of September 18 th and runs Monday and Wednesday from 3:00pm-5:00pm . For more information please feel free to contact Christina Simms, Senior Program Director 426-9526. 

TW-Y-LIGHT ZONE- The Southington Community YMCA opens its doors on Friday nights from 7:00pm-9:30pm for pre-teens and teens in grades 6-8. TW-Y-LIGHT ZONE offers a variety of activities including open gym, free swim, racquet ball, snack bar, games and activities as well as a special feature for the week. Stingray Swim Team - The Y offers one of the finest competitive swim programs for young men and women in Central Connecticut . Under the direction of experienced coaches, swimmers participating in this program will compete in YMCA dual meets, plus cluster championship. Open Swim - Pre- teens 11-13 are permitted to use the pool during open swim. Swimmers must shower with soap prior to using the pool.

Gymnastics Team- The Y offers a competitive gymnastics team for Levels 4 through 9. They compete in YMCA meets as well as USAG meets. The season runs from September to May. A summer program is also offered. For additional information, please call 203-272-7688.

Health and Wellness Classes

The Health and Wellness Center is open to pre-teen members 11-13 accompanied by an adult member. All members must go through a fitness orientation prior to using the facility.

The Health and Wellness Center offers a variety of fitness class geared towards pre-teens 11-13. For information on the following classes please call Karen DiGirolamo at 860-628-5597, ext 308. Youth Strength Training, Girl Power Fitness, Teen Team Rowing, Girl’s Junior Personal Strength Training, Kid’s Yoga, Teen Rowing and Teen Group Cycling.
