TwYlight at the Southington Community YMCA
What is TwYlight? – TwYlight is a middle school program for kids in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. It is run at the Southington Community YMCA where participants can hang out with their friends in a safe and positive environment.
When does TwYlight run? - TwYlight is run on Friday nights from November – April each year, excluding a few holiday and miscellaneous weeks. The program runs from 7pm-9pm.
What do you do at TwYlight? – Participants will get a variety of different activity options each night, some being offered each night and others offered occasionally. Activities include: the basketball gym, game room (video games, ping pong, foosball, board games, etc), “All Purpose Room” (APR) where each week is a different activity like dodgeball, handball, floor hockey, a movie night, trivia, bingo, paint night, and more), *swimming (offered specific weeks), and a snack bar that sells chips, drinks, mac and cheese, and other goodies.
Participants are given the freedom to roam between activities as they please (in specified areas only) with friends, but a YMCA staff member will be supervising each activity area all night.
Does TwYlight cost anything? – If you are a member of the Southington-Cheshire YMCAs TwYlight is free. If you are not a member, each night is $8.00. All snacks and drinks at the snack bar are $1.00 or less. If you are interested or would like more information about becoming a Teen Member of our Y, please contact the front desk at 860-628-5597.
Where do I drop off/pick up my child? – For the drop off process, we use the side door of the YMCA located on High Street. We do not use the main front door for TwYlight drop off. Once your child is inside, they will be asked to sign in. If it is their first time at TwYlight, we will have them fill out a quick emergency contact form and a behavior contract before entering, and pay if they are non-members. If they have been to a TwYlight before, they simply need to tell us their name (pay if non-member) as we keep their name and emergency contact information each week.
For pick up, you can park in the main lot in the front of the Y, and we will dismiss the kids out the front door to you. There is no sign out process. Our staff will assist in the parking lot with traffic flow, kids crossing, and helping kids find their rides. Please be mindful that there may be over 150 kids exiting the Y and the dismissal process may take a little bit.
